Pinyon Mountain Road and Fish Creek Wash to Split Mountain - Julian California Mountain Bike Trails

Granted, setting up the shuttle for and then doing this ride requires a very long day. But the scenery and the riding experience are worth the effort. Beginning at about 2000 feet, the road climbs to 3980 feet before starting a 3300-foot descent to near sea level. You roll through spectacular ocotillo cactus and pinyon pine before dropping to wind-and water-scarred fossil shell reefs and wind caves. After the initial climb, the route is mostly a downhill cruise, although sand, rocks, washboard and motorized vehicles make it far from effortless.
