The 30 miles of out-and-back on the limestone doubletrack inside Big Cypress National Preserve takes the off-road biker into one of the few remaining primitive areas of the Everglades accessible by two wheels. Although you will see many of the typical swamp creatures -- gators, snakes, coons, and such -- you may also be one of the last to ever see one of the 30 to 50 remaining Florida panthers in their native habitat. And, of course, you'll see the big cypress trees for which the preserve is named. Although they are impressive, they are just slightly half the age of the 800-year-old giants that were trammed out of here by the Tidewater Cypress Company.
