Bordered by the asphalt of a major highway and subdivision roads, this former limestone quarry has taken shape as one of Florida's more popular off-road destinations. A combination of single- and double-track makes a series of loops swirling over 15 miles (and expanding on a regular basis) through a forest of hardwoods and pines. Different trail sections are blazed with yellow (easiest), blue (intermediate), and red (whoa now!). This trail system on 300 acres is part of the Florida Greenways project, an ambitious undertaking to develop a cross-Florida network of off-road biking opportunities akin to the hiker's Florida Trail.

I ride these trails once or twice a week. Lots of variety from very easy to quite difficult. Trails are color rated according to difficulty level. You can choose the ride you want - from dropping off 30 to 50 ft cliffs in and around old limerock pits to heading ''cross country'' to the ''land bridge'' and back (approx 18 miles round trip). Altogether there are about 30+ miles of trails - most of which are rideable in any kind of weather. Only the most difficult trails should be avoided in rainy weather - they get very muddy and treacherous. As of 09/02 there is no charge for parking or riding but the main parking area is being completely reworked and when done will include camping sites - my guess is that we will see a small charge for parking.

The trails of Santos are great. Some of the best trails in Florida.
