This is an excellent beginner trail where I send any novices looking for rides in the area. It’s smooth and safe with just enough roots and humps to keep it interesting. The park management and NC FATS deserve a big round of applause for their foresight in constructing the only legal singletrack in Wake County. Be careful of heavy bike traffic and idiots without helmets on the weekends. The park also offers picnic shelters, boating, volleyball, fishing, and playgrounds for the rest of the family. 500' Loop 2 connector Tread: 3.9 miles of singletrack.

Lake Crabtree is a relatively large and growing trail system in the heart of the Triangle area of NC. It's location is great, and the trails are great, well maintained. Also, there are some nice things set up for testing one's skills too. For a quick ride in the middle of the triangle, this can't be beat. The only detractions from a five star rating: the trails are near the freeway in spots, and so the noise level can be high. And the scenery isn't the best - it's just mostly forested hillsides with few views. The only other detractor is because the area is compact, there are few stretches that allow for obtaining significant speed. I like cruising on my bike (i.e. Moab style), and can't really do that here.
