Observatory Hill - Charlottesville Virginia Mountain Bike Trails

This ride's general location is the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville. Keep in mind this is private property. Observatory Hill gets its name from the proximity to the McCormick Observatory on Mount Jefferson. Its wooded location on the U. of Virginia campus makes it easily accessible for a large number of riders as well as day hikers in this university town. The trail is a maze of steep single-track whose considerable challenges will be more appreciated by intermediate to advanced riders. The trail goes up, down, and around the natural contours of Mount Jefferson. Approx. 7 miles of mostly technical single-track are bounded by city and campus roads, so it's pretty difficult to get lost. Every section of the trail will either butt into another trail or dead-end at one of the streets bordering Mount Jefferson.
