Description

Spark R&D Blaze Splitboard Bindings

The Spark R&D Blaze splitboard bindings are designed specifically for high-speed, big-mountain snowboarders looking for a lightweight binding to explorer untracked pow. Aluminum baseplates are CNC machined from a single piece of aluminum and feature cutouts for traction, snowshed and weight savings. Splitboard-specific highbacks are soft torsionally and stiff from front to back; forward lean ranges from -5 to +25° to accommodate touring on flats and riding steeps. Precurved ankle straps are minimal and lightweight, yet are comfortable. Integrated toe strap reduces weight and makes for one less part to lose. Welded rings in pins add strength and security. Spark R&D bindings include a Spark pin that works with the Voile mounting system and will also work with the Spark R&D LT Pin system, sold separately. Assembled in the USA of foreign and domestic components.

Good enough binding, but...

This binding is lighter and less bulky than using your regular bindings with an adapter plate. The construction of the rail and footbed is very good: it inspires confidence. I was surprised to find that the binding straps were of less bomber construction than you would find on a similarly-priced downhill binding. There is little padding, the range of adjustment is small (and requires a screwdriver, rather than a using a cambuckle). Carry a spare strap and the included multi-tool in the backcountry in case something breaks. The highbacks are a little uncomfortable in touring mode, so loosen your boots and adjust the highbacks to a more gentle incline when switching over to avoid calf pain. If you're installing these onto new splitboard pucks, put a little wax on the rails the first time: they'll slide on and off easier. Overall a good binding if you're going to wear soft-boots i
