Buy the REI Brand instead
Bought these for our 4mo/old despite the poor reviews because both the husband and I love smart wool socks. Bottom Line: BUY the REI brand socks. REI brand is softer, stays on better (which for infants is a must) feels truer to size and has little "grippy" things on the bottom. I purchased both brands (smartwool and REI) just to compare and wish I had just gone with REI.

We loved them
Our son wore these in the winter from the time he was a newborn (6.5lbs) till about 5 months. They are stretcy so they fit for a while. It was hard to find anything that stayed on as well as these did, or kept him as warm. I can't believe the other reviews...especially since I have several friends that loved these as well! They did pill rather quickly but warmth was our priority.

Never Stay On
These are really small, so they may work well for your new born, but much after that, and they'll fall right off.

Won't stay on feet
Super cute, but shrink when washed and won't stay on for anything!

REI's are better and cheaper
These socks don't stay on very well, are short (the 6-12 mo already is too small for my 7 mo old), and pill very quickly. I purchased the REI-brand wool socks at the same time and those are significantly better fit and wear (although also a bit short).

do not wear/wash well
These socks looked horrible as soon as i washed them. They are pilled. They also do not stay on well. I bought them along with the rei version for half the price. The rei version is the best! They wash and wear well.if i wasnt too busy with an infant, i would have returned these. Extremely disappointing, because i own lots of adult smartwools and love them- and because they are expensive socks.
