Good semi-minimialist shoe
I've been trying to switch to a forefoot strike from a heel strike. Minimalist running shoes seem to be the best way to get there. My old shoes were Nike Zoom Vomero which have a really cushy heel and feel great if you are a heel striker. But I've realized that heel striking just slows you down since you are braking on every stride. The Kinvara's have only a 4mm difference in thickness between the front and back, making it much easier to land on your forefoot.I tried the Nike Free 2+, which are super flexible, but they have a 7mm difference between front and back and less padding than the Kinvara's. The Nike's also have less rubber on the sole, so the Kinvara's should be more durable. For long races, the extra padding of the Kinvara's is helpful as your stride inevitably breaks down. The Kinvara's are super light, even lighter than the Nike Free 2+.
