Salomon Quest 4D GTX Hiking Boots - Men's

Bringing trail-running shoe technology to a full-on backpacking boot makes the waterproof, breathable Salomon Quest 4D GTX hiking boots nimble, supportive and lightweight. Long-lasting split suede leather and nylon mesh uppers offer flexibility, breathability and lightweight comfort. Seam-sealed Gore-Tex® membranes offer excellent protection from water yet allow moisture vapor to escape, keeping feet from overheating. Rubber toe caps and heel slings protect toes and uppers from bumps and abrasion. Padded, gusseted tongues relieve lace pressure while keeping trail debris and moisture out. Wicking polyester linings absorb and disperse excess moisture for comfort. Removable Ortholite® footbeds add shock absorption while antimicrobial treatment deters odors. Dual-density EVA midsoles absorb shock to supply lasting comfort and support. 4D Advanced Chassis™ thermoplastic urethane midsole supports help control flex, reduce ankle strain, enhance stability and protect feet from rough terrain. Contagrip® rubber outsoles keep you moving across rough surfaces, both wet and dry. Fit tip: runs true to size.

Not what I had hoped

These felt great in the store and for the first couple of hours on the trail. After a few hours they started to rub the skin off the top of my two outer toes on both feet and high on the back of both heels right where the cloth and the rubber part of the boot meet. I couldn't feel a seem inside with my hands but it must be there behind the inner liner. I wore sock liners and trekking socks and it still had these pressure points on both feet. REI was great in taking them back. I am back to my Timberland boots which are so comfortable but don't offer the same ankle support as the Solomon boot do. They may not have been right f

Love Salomon's

Recently hiked the high sierra trail in these boots with a 40lb pack. The boots in general performed well including several walks through streams. My only complaint (maybe partially my fault) was they rub in the ankle/shin area. I was wearing thin wool socks so maybe that would be remediated by wearing a heavier sock but it was the middle of August. I will try them next time with a heavier sock. The height of the boot was good and bad. The good was less trail debris got kicked up into my boots, the bad was the top cuff rubbed in the shin shile walking uphill and the back of the calf while hiking downhill.

Best Boot I Have Ever Owned

I have owned a lot of boots over the years. With every boot pair I always had to learn where my hot spots were going to be, Then I would always cover those spots with duct tape or mole skin. I fully expected to do this again. But traveling over 100 miles carrying 50lbs in the Easter High Sierras through Muir and Ansel Adams Wilderness and into Yosemite I didn't get a single hot spot or blister. I couldn't believe it. This was with almost no break-in. The only break in I had done was two trips up the hill to the water tower near my home. Maybe 2 miles in total.I will admit that I was worried that these boots didn't have a Vibram sole, but

Great boots

We hike year around, usually 10-12 mile day hikes with 2000'-4000' elevation. Used to swear by Keens but needed more ankle support. LOVE the lacing systems which locks in the lacing tension on the bottom half of the boots but lets me have a different tension level up around my ankle. Also, great heel padding. Light weight but very durable, has nice heavy rubber padding toes ala Keens.

Best boots ever

When I was trying on boots and put these on, they immediately felt right. That was over a year ago. Since that time I have used them for day hikes and b

Outstanding!

After trying two different pairs of boots that both caused unbelievable heal blisters, at the recommendation of a fellow backpacker I decided to give these Salomon Quest 4D GTX hiking boots a go and I'm glad I did. Thanks to REI for their fantastic return policy! They offer exceptional comfort, support and traction. I backpacked 13 miles this past weekend with a 40 pound pack and with no break-in at all, these boots didn't create one blister or any foot soreness at all. This is a first for me after several years of backpacking. I also purposely stepped through ankle high water at stream crossings to test the water resistance and they performed flawlessly.

Excellent Boot

I bought these boots on the advice of an REI employee, specifically for heavier, longer hiking this season, and they have performed admirably. Since June I have done three "shakedown" weekend hikes of around 15 miles each with full packs on challenging grades (10-20%) around Shenandoah National Park, then last week 63 miles over seven days at Goshen Boy Scout Reservation. Last week's hikes included one day of 20 miles and another of 13, each with challenging climbs, and a mix of full packs and day packs. Trails were decent condition, occasionally rocky or muddy, with occasional small stream crossings. Myself and another adult leader each wore t

Love the shoe, and LOVE the service

A couple of years ago I was going to be doing some early season backpacking in the Sierras, so was looking for a sturdy, lightweight boot that would hold up well in snowy conditions. A friend of mine had a pair of Quest 4D GTX and recommended them highly. I decided to check them out, and wa

fantastic boot

Had this boot for about a month, did 3 short hikes and then 10.7 mi. to summit Mt Katahdin, it is a great boot, light weight, supportive, great traction on rocks, very water resistant was totally dry after walking through a couple streams, pricey - was the most expensive boot of about 9 that I tried on, no break in period, I would highly recommend this boot, if it fits your foot of course.

Amazing Fit

My only concern is durability. Only time will tell. I've used them on a 3 day trek and they seem to hold up so far. Even if they only last on

I would buy this product again

I used these boots on a 4 day hike/car camping in the Allegheny National Forest. We day hiked on the North Country Trail. I didn't find there to be a long break in time. My foot was comfortable while wearing them from 6-10 hours each day. I also found the ankle support to be excellent. I rolled my ankle a few times and fortunately never sprained it. I did waterproof them with another product. A large part of our trip was spent in very wet/muddy/thunderstorm conditions and not once did my feet ever get wet. I also stepped into streams that were ankle level. My feet were warm but never felt hot. Overall these boots w

Good Products

I used the boots for backpacking and difficult day hikes. It does not take long to break-in and quite breathable. The lace clip design especially the one at the bend of the ankle is great to keep the lace over the feet tight. However, it takes a lot more efforts to loosen that part of the lace w

I feel like I could walk forever.

I have used them on a hike of Old Rag and they were great. I also use the on my weekly walks around Great Falls Park Difficult Run Trail. I appreciate the support they give me and the sense of stability when walking in them.

I bought them again

Really great boots. Not the most durable boots around, but when you consider weight, comfort and it, the durability is more than acceptable. The first year I wore these boots I was working in the forest (research, not cutting trees) and 40+ hours/week on rough terrain. Sure, they aren't forester grade boots (which cost 2-3 times as much), but they worked very well. Enough protection for spending a lot of time off trail. The second summer I missed all of the time I spent outside and hiked at least 20 miles a week on trail, I did 40 miles in a week a few times. I know I put these boots to the test. If they fit you, get them. They aren't too hot in the su

great hiking boot so far. 75 miles

75 miles on the boot, just got done with a 40 mile trek from Tuolumne meadows to Yosimote valley including Half Dome " a little slippage on the shinny granite between the cables going down". went through snow, water and creek crossing, no leaking what so ever. what a Awesome boot, a bit hot with my arch supports that don't breath that good. Note: I had a 55 lbs back pack on as well.

So far.. so just ok

Just bought these for my next big hike. 40miles across isle royal.. lots of wet and soggy up and down terrain. so i will update after that trip in june. so far i have had these for a week and have worn them every day. they get very uncomfortable on the sides of my feet due to the sturdy rubber strap on the sides and being very narrow boot.. ive tried several insoles to resolve this and it doesnt help. it seems to be lessing so im hoping its just waiting to be broke in. So far they are great except for that. lets hope its not a problem.
