Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 Tent Review

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 Tent Review
The Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 is a top-of-the-line ultralight backpacking tent made for two occupants for three seasons. At a pack weight of 3 lb. 6 oz., the Copper Spur UL2 is one of the lightest backpacking tents on the market, but Big Agnes doesn't sacrifice durability and quality. The DAC Featherlite aluminum pole system is the newest technology providing lightweight poles with improved durability. The fly and floor are made of ultralight silicone-treated nylon rip-stop, able to stand up to any storm. The body is constructed of nylon and polyester mesh for maximum ventilation.

Perks

Although the Copper Spur UL2 offers lightweight durability, it does not sacrifice size. With a 29 square foot floor area, the Copper Spur UL2 is larger than many of its competitor tents and more than a pound lighter. Big Agnes also developed a fast fly system for the Copper Spur UL2 to save even more weight by attaching the fly to the footprint, allowing the user to leave the tent body at home.

Sacrifices

Due to the enhanced durability, the Copper Spur UL2 is difficult to set up compared to other two-pole tent models. Big Agnes uses a three-pole system with an unorthodox pole layout, causing confusion and consuming extra time. However, once set up, the Copper Spur UL2 offers impeccable stability.

Bottom Line

The Copper Spur UL2 brings lightweight quality to a whole new level. But for about $400, it is recommended only for the true outdoor enthusiast who requires a lightweight, durable tent. Beginner and intermediate backpackers can find cheaper tents that will fit their needs.
