Columbia Cougar Flats II Tent Review
The Columbia Cougar Flats II tent is a two-room cabin-style dome tent that is perfect for family camping trips. It is constructed of durable polyester taffeta with fiberglass and steel poles designed for optimal stabilization and strength. The Cougar Flats II is 15 by 10 feet with a height of 7.16 feet, allowing plenty of room for eight occupants. It includes two rooms with two large doors and windows and plenty of pockets for storage. At a packed weight of 54 lb., the Cougar Flats II is bulky and heavy but has a wheeled bag for easy mobility. For about $280, it is a great buy for a quality family camping tent.

Perks

The Cougar Flats II tent stays dry in even the most adverse conditions with the GoBe Dry Ultimate Rain Protection system, which includes sealed seams and heavy-duty waterproof polyester used for both tent and fly. The Cougar Flats II also allows free air flow with the fly on using the Cyclone venting system including mesh sidings and two bay windows. Also, the built-in cup holders are convenient for morning coffee.

Sacrifices

Due to Columbia's extra large design for the Cougar Flats II tent, it lacks stability. When tightly staked, the tent will stand strong during calm conditions but will really catch the wind and begin to collapse during strong wind storms. It also takes a lot of effort and time to set up and take down and is not recommended for one person.

Bottom Line

The Columbia Cougar Flats II tent is durable and spacious, making it great for family camping. However, due to the weight and setup difficulties, it is not recommended for single occupancy or for any use where it will have to be packed.
