Review of Cabelas Scierra Fly Rods

Review of Cabelas Scierra Fly Rods
The Scierra IC3 line of fly rods from Cabelas is the latest offering for the 2010 season. The Scierra IC3 is designed to generate high line speeds thanks to its fast action blank design. This allows anglers to throw longer casts on windy days. These rods are 9 feet in length and handle 4, 6 and 8 weight fly lines. All rods in this series come in a four-piece configuration that allows for easy portability with two handle styles. The suggested price as of late 2009 is $149.99.

Perks

These rods are light in the hand, which allows fly-fishing anglers to cast all day with very little arm fatigue. Each rod comes with an aluminum rod tube to protect the rod during travel, a nice touch for a rod in this price range.

Sacrifices

There are only three line weights available and one length of 9 feet in this series, which limits the amount of species a fly angler can pursue with these rods. Also, the reel seat takes some effort to tighten when mounting the fly reel.

Bottom Line

The price is hard to beat, especially with the aluminum rod tube. If you only need a 4, 6 or 8 weight fly rod, then the Scierra is the rod for you.
