Perks
Magellan tents are large and inexpensive. The three-man model provides several more square feet of space than a Coleman tent marketed for the same number of sleepers. The Magellan tents feature a "gear loft" for storing equipment off the floor, as well as shoe pockets. The tent design, set up and break down are simple and easy to follow.
Sacrifices
Magellan markets its tents as three-season tents, but the waterproofing leaves much to be desired. Even when set up with the fly and a groundsheet, the tent is distressingly vulnerable to leaks. Magellan tents are also heavier than comparable tents designed for backpacking.
Bottom Line
The tents' value is reflected in the price tag. Magellan tents are really only appropriate for summer and dry-weather camping, severely limiting their usefulness.
