Perks
The Tiros is both durable and cold-weather capable. The geodesic design ensures that the tent's surface is always taut. Sierra Designs fast clips are great, making set up a breeze. For extra stability the Tiros has additional reinforcement at the points where two poles meet.
Sacrifices
The Tiros is more appropriate as an all-weather expedition tent than a backpacking tent, since it is quite heavy. The vestibule is large enough for gear, but is a little too tight for active use, such as for cooking. Plus, while the Tiros is great for winter, wind and rain, it doesn't ventilate well, making it a poor option for use in the summer.
Bottom Line
The Sierra Design Tiros as been an expedition favorite for years. It's time-tested design makes it unbeatable when you need protection from the elements.
