Osprey Aether 85 Backpack Review

Osprey Aether 85 Backpack Review
The Osprey Aether 85 is one of the manufacturer's larger options: 30.5 inches high, 16 inches wide and 12 inches deep. This translates to a volume of around 5200 cubic inches and a capacity of about 85 liters. The Aether also comes in small and large forms. The small is 82 liters, and the large is 88 liters. Regardless of the size chosen, the Aether weighs more than 4 pounds: the medium weighs 4 pounds, 12 ounces. The pack is constructed of 420D nylon, with certain portions meshed with Lycra for stretchability.

Perks

Osprey has a reputation for durable and thoughtful design, and the Aether 85 is no exception. The water bottle pockets on the side offer a double entry: on the top, as is standard, and diagonally canted forward, allowing users to angle water bottles for easier access while hiking. The front of the pack has a large stretch pocket that can expand to hold a raincoat for easy access or even stretch over a climbing helmet.

Sacrifices

The Aether 85's larger weight makes it less suitable those who prefer lightweight backpacks or who primarily take day or afternoon trips. While the suspension is quite comfortable, Osprey's Aether 85 has a narrow profile that requires careful packing.

Bottom Line

Osprey Aether 85 is a perfect pack for those who are looking to carry a lot into the back country. Exceptional suspension, thoughtful pockets and easy adaptability make the Aether 85 an exceptional choice.
