The Kelty Red Cloud backpack in the field.
The Kelty Red Cloud backpack is a large pack designed for hauling heavy loads on extended multiday trips. Its durably is constructed of 600D polyester and features a large main compartment, two side compartments, a removable top compartment that doubles as a hip pack and a sleeping bag compartment. There's a high degree of adjustment possibilities with the straps, ensuring a comfortable fit for almost any user, and a solid layer of padding on the back panel and hip belt.

Perks

The size of the Red Cloud makes it terrific for backpackers heading out on extended trips, where carrying a large amount of gear and supplies are necessary. Openings for hydration packs plus a venting back panel, shoulder straps and hip belt are nice touches that will help keep you comfortable in warm weather.

Sacrifices

The Red Cloud isn't for minimalists or ultralight hikers. The pack tips the scales at more than 5 lbs. unloaded, necessary given that it's designed for carrying heavy loads but probably more than you want if you're trying to keep your load weight low.

Bottom Line

The Red Cloud is durable, well-designed and will get the job done for you when you're on the trail. It will carry a large load and can meet most budgets.
