The Sierra Designs Sirius has a pack weight of just more than 4 pounds. For that you get 31 square feet of interior space, plus 4 square feet of vestibule space on either side of the tent. The Sirius packs tight but unfolds into a roomy lay-out: At 83 inches long, the Sierra Design Sirius has plenty of space for tall campers. Only requiring two poles to set up, the Sirius has an interior height of 39 inches, plenty for your next late night card game. Best of all, the Sirius is a steal, costing only $160 as of mid-2009.
Perks
The Sierra Designs Sirius provides a number of attractive features without adding too much weight. It features two doors, allowing campers to get in from either side. The rainfly extends on both sides, leaving room for boots on either side of the tent. The straightforward pole arrangement makes set-up easy while maximizing interior space.
Sacrifices
One of the Sirius' main weaknesses is the skimpy rainfly. While it offers full coverage, the Sirius has trouble keeping dry when rain is combined with heavy winds. While the Sirius is more than long enough, it's a little narrow at only 53 inches wide. Expect to be a little snug.
Bottom Line
A great, no-frills backpacking tent, the Sierra Designs Sierra is perfect for those looking for a lot of bang for their buck. Light and simple, the Sirius offers all most backpackers will ever need.
