Sierra Designs Baku 2 Tent Review

Sierra Designs Baku 2 Tent Review
The Baku 2 Tent by Sierra Designs is a two-person, single-wall tent. It features two doors, two vestibules and a clip system to three DAC Featherlight poles. The tent body has waterproofed, taped seams, is made of rip-stop nylon and affixes to an aluminum pole frame. Its weight is 4 lbs. 0 oz., and it has an indoor volume of 28 sq. ft. Dimensions are length, 83 inches; height, 40 inches; and width, 52 inches. The floor material is taffeta nylon, and the body and fly are made of rip-stop nylon.

Perks

Steep sidewalls, durable nylon and waterproofed seams make it an excellent three-season shelter. The tent's most convenient feature is its two-door, two-vestibule design. Two people can enter the tent from two different sides and store their gear under separate vestibules. Setup is quick and easy.

Sacrifices

The tent's clip system to DAC Featherlight poles is convenient, but leaves the thin-walled poles prone to denting. While the tent is made for two, there is little room for gear storage or movement. While the Baku 2 has excellent ventilation when the vestibules are open, if closed during warm weather the tent becomes very hot; the closed vestibules also restrict any outside view from within the tent as there are no windows.

Bottom Line

The Baku 2 is a durable, sturdy tent that makes efficient use of space and materials. Its relative lightweight, durable design, weatherproof material and two-door design serve it well in diverse terrain. While it lacks vestibule windows, the convenience of its two entries and quick setup far outweigh the inconvenience.
