Therm-A-Rest NeoAir Mat Review

Therm-A-Rest NeoAir Mat Review
Therm-a-Rest's NeoAir Sleeping Pad is a lightweight, three-season air-cushioned sleeping pad that is built for the needs of back country enthusiasts who want to combine comfort and light weight into one sleeping pad. The Therm-a-Rest NeoAir registers only 14 oz. on the scale (regular size) and measures 2 1/2 inches thick. Best of all, it's as small as a Nalgene bottle when packed. The pad is available in three sizes--small, medium and large--ranging in length from 47 to 77 inches.

Perks

Comfort and light weight are the key advantages of the NeoAir. The air pockets in the bag provide a warm and comfy base for your sleeping bag, and a set of internal reinforcing baffles keeps the pad firm and stable. When folded up, the NeoAir slips easily into your pack and adds less than a pound to your load.

Sacrifices

You give up a little convenience and durability with the NeoAir. As with any air-cushioned pad, there's the possibility of punctures or leaks, which leaves your pad pretty much useless. Add on the slight amount of extra time required for inflation and deflation, and you lose some convenience in your camp set-up and tear-down.

Bottom Line

The advantages of the NeoAir outweigh the disadvantages by a long way. Get this pad if you don't want to sacrifice comfort and light weight when you're on the trail.
