Gerber Big Rock Camp Knife Review

Gerber Big Rock Camp Knife Review
A fixed blade knife, the Gerber Big Rock has a lot to offer. The overall length reaches just under 9 1/2 inches, with a 4.5 inch blade. Made of 440A stainless steel, the Gerber Big Rock is exceptionally hard, making it capable of holding a sharp edge for a long time with little maintenance. With a partially serrated body and drop-point blade, the Gerber Big Rock is also very versatile, and the handle includes a lanyard hole designed to fit heavy duty cord.

Perks

In addition to the blade's exceptional technical specifications, Gerber's Big Rock has a number of smart design features that increase its versatility. The knife is designed to simultaneously be a capable hunting knife and an all-use camping knife. The handle is modeled to fit the hand comfortably, with a thumb grip for extra leverage. The knife comes with its own sheath.

Sacrifices

In trying to produce a hunting knife that will also appeal to general camping use, Gerber has created one with some of the weaknesses of both. The most glaring issue is the lack of a folding blade, which is considered standard by most campers. The knife's heavy design also makes it unsuitable for backpacking, with a weight approaching nearly half a pound.

Bottom Line

A great knife for general use. The Gerber Big Rock is perfect for those looking for a versatile fixed blade.
