Review of the Osprey Aura Backpack

Review of the Osprey Aura Backpack
The Osprey Aura series of backpacks is available in three different payload capacities: 35L, 50L and 65L. All sizes are equipped with Osprey's specialty AirSpeed Suspension which holds the pack away from your body to allow maximum ventilation while still ensuring a secure fit. All three are constructed of highly durable yet lightweight Cordura and ripstop nylon. The 35L model is the only one without a top lid and is more suited for day hikes than extended trips. As the Aura series is Osprey's lightweight line for women, padding on the shoulder straps and hip belt is minimum while still providing maximum ventilation and comfort.

Buyers can expect a secure, women's-specific fit and the benefits of Osprey's AirSpeed Suspension System. The packs don't even feel like they are resting on your back and you'll enjoy a cooler journey from the lightweight design and suspension system. The hip belts on all sizes have handy zippered storage pockets and there are dual tool attachment locations on all pack sizes, ideal for mountaineering ice axes and technical ice tools.

Sacrifices

If you're taking an extended journey longer than a few days, you may find that the minimalist design of Osprey's Aura series to be too minimal. The shoulder straps and hip belt are designed for fast and light backpacking and if you're carrying a heavier load, they can tend to bind after a few days. The 35L capacity isn't well-suited for climbing outings as there's no place to attach a rope underneath a pack lid.

Bottom Line

Osprey's Aura line of ultralight backpacks for women are packed full of features and offer various payload capacities to suit a wide variety of needs. The suspension system offers both comfort and a significantly reduced-sweat ride, whether you're out for 30 minutes or three days.
