SmartWool Ski Socks Review

SmartWool Ski Socks Review
SmartWool has taken the lead in making socks for the outdoor market. All SmartWool socks use a blend of merino wool, nylon and elastic. SmartWool ski socks are available in a variety of thicknesses. The socks have varying percentages of wool in each, from 58 percent in the ultra light to 67 percent in the medium weight. The socks are available in sizes small, medium, large and extra large. They accommodate from women's size 4 to men's size 14.5.

Perks

SmartWool socks fit like a glove on the foot because of the blend of nylon, elastic and wool. There is no slippage of the foot inside the sock when skiing, so the skier has better control. The blend of wool, nylon and elastic creates an efficient thermal regulator that helps wick moisture from the skin, keeping the foot warm and dry. SmartWool ski socks also have added cushioning in the shin.

Sacrifices

SmartWool ski socks, even in the medium size, are still a little thinner than expedition trekking socks, so if it's bitterly cold out and you haven't sized your ski boots properly, you may get cold. The mid-calf length can be a little awkward with long underwear and other layers.

Bottom Line

SmartWool ski socks are essential equipment for an enjoyable day on the slopes. They help to keep your feet warm, and, as such, allow you to focus on making your turns.
