Vibram FiveFingers Running Shoes Review

Vibram FiveFingers Running Shoes Review
Vibram FiveFingers are more like a glove than a traditional shoe. Each toe is separate, just like gloves for hands, allowing your toes to move naturally and independently from each other. They feature durable Vibram rubber outsoles and stretchy, glove-like uppers. The KSO model, which stands for "keep stuff out," is best for rocky, dusty terrain. The Sprint version can be used on less-rugged trails or on the roads. The Classic is a strapless pull-on style. The Flow is a cold-weather shoe with neoprene lining.

Perks

Vibram FiveFingers allow you to run as if you are barefoot, strengthening your calves and feet. Vibrams are great for trail running because you can feel the ground and adjust accordingly to changing terrain. Vibram shoes last much longer than traditional running shoes that wear out in 500 miles or less. Going more than 1,000 miles in Vibrams is common.

Sacrifices

It takes some time to adjust to running in Vibram FiveFingers. You will probably experience soreness in your calves and feet at the start. Only run a mile or less in them at first, and slowly build up the mileage. Some runners experience blisters and hot spots between their toes during the break in period. Vibrams look strange, so expect to get a lot of questions from passersby that see you running in them.

Bottom Line

It takes a while to transition to Vibram FiveFingers, but it might be worth the effort for the strength that you gain. The odd appearance will get you noticed, so these shoes are not for the shy. Vibram FiveFingers are priced from $75 to $90 depending on the model.
