Perks
Battery compartment
The 60CSX has a reputation for outstanding reception and the 5 solid satellite locks it had proved the reputation was well deserved. After a 6 mile hike with the 60CSX, along with a Garmin Vista and a DeLorme PN40, only the 60CSX had no loss of reception along the route. The unit really shines with Garmin's City Navigator installed. With this it provides turn by turn driving directions to the trailhead.
Sacrifices
The base maps only show major roads and bodies of water. For detailed maps you need to pay extra. Among the offerings are City Navigator and Mapsource Topo. Users who want driving directions and topo maps will have to buy two mapping products. Some users may be put off by the size of the unit.
Bottom Line
For those who want a versatile unit with outstanding reception, for hiking, geocaching, trail mapping, hunting, off-roading, biking and automotive navigation, the 60CSX is a fine choice. Weight conscious backpackers may opt for a more compact and lighter unit. Geocachers looking for a "paperless" GPS will have to look elsewhere.
