Rossignol 7X Pro Ski Review

Rossignol 7X Pro Ski Review

Eric C.

Made in 1995, the Rossignol X7 Pro is an all-mountain touring ski. The X7 Pro comes in lengths from 170 mm to 201 mm. Rossignol made the ski out of kevlar, making it flexible and lightweight. The ski was originally marketed as a downhill, resort style ski. The ski accepts downhill, telemark and modern alpine touring bindings as well as NNN backcountry touring bindings. Metal edges give the ski hard cut abilities for ice and choppy snow.

Perks

The 7X Pros give a hard edge in ice and hard snow. The metal edges cut into the snow, giving stability on tours and off camber descents. The camber is neutral, making it a good touring ski. Weight is evenly distributed over the length of the ski with the binding placements centered off the waist.

Sacrifices

The 7X Pros are long and narrow by today's standards. The 7X Pro performs poorly in deep powder or soft conditions. The metal edges require seasonal sharpening and diligence to prevent metal fatigue or rusting from snow and ice. Modern free ride bindings fit, but not well, on the 7X Pro.

Bottom Line

The 7X Pro is a nice collectors ski but not practical on the slopes. Use them for touring in the backcountry on groomed or partially groomed trails.
