Perks
The 7X Pros give a hard edge in ice and hard snow. The metal edges cut into the snow, giving stability on tours and off camber descents. The camber is neutral, making it a good touring ski. Weight is evenly distributed over the length of the ski with the binding placements centered off the waist.
Sacrifices
The 7X Pros are long and narrow by today's standards. The 7X Pro performs poorly in deep powder or soft conditions. The metal edges require seasonal sharpening and diligence to prevent metal fatigue or rusting from snow and ice. Modern free ride bindings fit, but not well, on the 7X Pro.
Bottom Line
The 7X Pro is a nice collectors ski but not practical on the slopes. Use them for touring in the backcountry on groomed or partially groomed trails.
