Brooks GTS 8 Shoe Review

By Julie Boehlke
Getting ready to run
The Brooks GTS 8 running shoe is one of the top choices of runners and athletes worldwide. It is designed to cradle the foot and let it move freely within the shoe. It is a breathable and flexible shoe that feels as though it has been broken in as soon as you try it on the first time. The Brooks GTS 8 comes with cushioning for the bottom of the foot and resists staining and water. It is available for men and women and comes in a variety of widths, colors and slight design differences.

Field Use

If you need a dependable running shoe for your next 5k or 10k, the GTS 8 fits the bill. This shoe doesn't feel as tight or narrow as many running shoes do. It also has extra toe room. The GTS 8 provides the stability you need to make sharp turns or avoid obstacles. Extra shock support is built in, so the shoe is easier on your ankles and legs. The shoe delivers good results on dirt and grass and breezes through to the finish line on pavement. Finally, it is good for those who have pronation issues with their feet---especially while running.

Pros and Cons

Pros: The shoe is well-rounded and versatile not only for the occasional runner, but also for the competitive runner. There is minimal slip, which means beginning speed can be reached easily and quickly. The shoe is good for a short jog, but its design also lives up to the expectations of a professional runner. The GTS 8 cushions every blow and its noncompact design helps the foot do all the work.

Cons: The shoe quite simply lacks style and eye appeal. Mizuno and Reebok deliver flashy good looks and many runners with a fashion sense choose their shoes. Brooks may outweigh its competitors overall, but it needs to update its shoes to improve their appeal.

Bottom Line

This shoe is built to last. Everything down to its laces is durable and the shoe stacks up nicely to its competitors. The GTS 8 also resists staining and tearing. Brooks offers an extra wide shoe option, which provides an even better fit. The focal points of the shoe---its reinforced toe and mesh design---leave nothing to the imagination as to how it will perform. The GTS 8 also has a lower arch than other running shoes, but that doesn't affect its overall performance. It's a good take-it-anywhere shoe for the track, for walking, for hitting the trails or for casual wear.
