Frogg Toggs Review

Frogg Toggs Review
Frogg Toggs brand rain wear was first introduced in the mid 1990s. Frogg Toggs are made completely of polypropylene trilaminate. Two water-repellent layers sandwich a breathable and more porous layer. The result is 100 percent waterproof rain wear that is breathable and comfortable to wear. Initially, Toggs were a hit with fishermen and other outdoors enthusiasts who were seeking a lightweight, packable, waterproof alternative to other heavyweight suits. The initial cost of Frogg Toggs has also proved to be a huge attractor, as it is possible to obtain the suits for up to one-third the cost of other suits. Weighing in at around a pound, the suits have become popular among fishermen, bikers and other outdoor enthusiasts.

Field Use

Frogg Toggs are well-suited to a variety of outdoor activities, but there is an especially enormous following for the product from fresh- and salt-water fishers. Frogg Toggs are ideal for boating and fishing, as their water repellency is excellent. With the ability to ward off rain and spray, the suits are an excellent outer layer for fishing excursions. Backpackers and motorcycle riders value Frogg Toggs because they can be compactly folded and carried in spaces where other waterproof garments may not fit. The suits are well-suited for a variety of activities, especially those with weight or storage concerns. Often available at a fraction of the cost of other waterproof shells, Frogg Toggs is an excellent choice for the those who love the outdoors.

Pros and Cons

Pros
Frogg Toggs are comfortable, waterproof, lightweight and affordable. Right out of the bag, Frogg Toggs rain wear is soft and comfortable, and the waterproof factor is comparable to other suits made of such materials as Gore Tex, which can easily cost two or three times as much. Frogg Toggs also have durable zippers and buckles.
Cons
The polypropylene material can be easily torn or ripped given certain situations. The material is somewhat less able to withstand abrasion and sharp objects. Those seeking a suit for hunting in thorny areas, or around sharp rocks or other abrasive objects should probably consider other options.

Bottom Line

Anyone looking for a well-made waterproof rain suit will be pleased with Frogg Toggs. The overall use of the suit should be considered, as the material can be ripped. The suits are often referred to as throw-away or disposable. However, at a price of $35 to $60, depending on model and style, many would not consider these disposable. With proper use and care, these suits are an excellent value, given their ability to repel water and keep the wearer comfortable in a variety of temperatures. Frogg Toggs are a dependable and cost-effective solution to the need for waterproof clothing in the great outdoors.
