Osprey Atmos Backpack Review

Osprey Atmos Backpack Review
Osprey's Atmos line of backpacks encompass three different models with capacities ranging from 1900 to 4200 cubic inches. There are three models, the Atmos 35, Atmos 50 and Atmos 65. The packs are most well-known for their ventilation and suspension systems, which hold the pack away from the user's back, maximizing airflow. The packs themselves are amazingly light, with the heaviest pack weighing in at 3 pounds 12 ounces. Designed for lightweight fanatics, every consideration has been made to make Atmos efficient and lightweight. Even the straps are perforated to shave off a few ounces. In addition to the three models, the Osprey Atmos packs each come in three different sizes, allowing for further customization.

Perks

The Atmos line of packs represent thoughtful design for a variety of backpacking circumstances. In addition to the top compartment, the Atmos packs all have a floating lid (except the Atmos 35), external compression straps, water bottle pockets, gear straps and a stow pouch on the front of the pack. Other perks include incredible durability and an exceptional fit.

Sacrifices

The Atmos line of packs are designed for backpackers who know how to pack light. Even the largest model, the Atmos 65, is significantly smaller than some backpackers are accustomed to. The hard wire frame that separates the pack's main storage space from the user's back increases ventilation, but also gives the interior a strange shape that some backpacker's find frustrating to load.

Bottom Line

Osprey's Atmos line of packs introduced some of the best innovations in backpacking technology in years. Exceptional ventilation and thoughtful design makes the pack handle incredibly. Pocket and strap placement are thoughtful, but spare. Expect to pack light and you'll likely love the Osprey Atmos packs.
