Review of Garrett 28X110 Binoculars

Review of Garrett 28X110 Binoculars
Made by Garrett Optical, the Signature series HD-WP Binoculars are ideal for astronomy applications, with a magnification and objective diameter of 28x110mm. Weighing six pounds, night stalkers will find a true field of view of 120 feet at 1000 yards or 2.3 degrees, an apparent field of vision of 64 degrees, eye relief to 17mm (11mm useable), exit pupil size of 3.9mm, length of 20.8 inches, light transmission of 92% and an IPD range of 56 to 74mm. Additionally, these porro prism-type binoculars use a five-element ocular design, are waterproof and offer fully broadband multi-coatings.

Perks

With most products, you get what you pay for. In the case of these binoculars, however, the opposite is true. Excellent optics are offered for a decent price. Additionally, most binoculars designed for astronomy are lacking when it comes to clarity with distant objects. The components of the 28x110 offer better-than-average magnification boosts. Also worth mentioning is the unusual feature of recessed threads on eyepieces, so 1 ¼ inch filters can be screwed on.

Sacrifices

One concern with the Signature series is that when viewing in cold conditions, the interpupillary adjustments become somewhat stiff. If sharing the binoculars with others who require different magnification levels, this can be a problem. Also, as is the case with any quality binoculars designed with astronomy in mind, a sturdy tripod is a must, adding to the cost.

Bottom Line

For the astronomy enthusiast looking for large aperture options, the Garrett Signature 28x110 HD-WP binoculars are an ideal choice, combining a competitive low price tag, sleek design and quality optics.
