Meade's optics are among the best in the business, and are crisp and clear. The one-year, no questions asked return policy enables you to buy these field glasses without concern, which is an excellent advantage. The binoculars are fog- and water-proof, which enables them to be used without worry in all conditions.
Sacrifices
As with many binoculars, particularly more powerful ones, the weight of these binoculars is a factor. Kestrels vary from approximately 1 1/2 lbs. to 2 1/2 lbs. This isn't too much weight for a day spent birding, but it is too heavy to justify taking them backpacking.
Bottom Line
While the weight prohibits these binoculars from being used while backpacking, they are excellent for any other kind of general use and seem to be particularly designed with birdwatchers in mind.
