A Coleman Salt Lake Tent Review

A Coleman Salt Lake Tent Review
The Coleman Salt Lake tent has three sleeping compartments built around a center sitting/eating room. This large tent is designed for summer and edge season car camping. The construction is nylon, with integrated screens and zip window covers. The tent is free standing; it doesn't require any external guying for set up, though staking the perimeter of the tent is recommended during windy conditions. The sleeping compartments can be removed if you want a smaller footprint.

Perks

The Salt Lake is big--comfortably big enough to sleep nine without difficulty. And even if you're going with fewer people in your party, you'll enjoy privacy, since the three sleeping compartments are separated from the center area with zipped nylon doors. Ventilation is good--each compartment has large zip-down windows for plenty of flow-through ventilation. If you're setting up camp for an extended stay, the Salt Lake is good option.

Sacrifices

With great size comes great weight. The Salt Lake is heavy, tipping the scales at well over 20 pounds. It's not suited for backpacking expeditions, given its size and weight. Setup can be a bit confusing, at least on the first few tries, given the number of poles needed. The included instructions are vague.

Bottom Line

For setting up in established campgrounds, backyards or meadows near a trailhead, the Salt Lake tent is a good way to bring a little luxury into your camping experience. There's enough room to hold a large party and even set up a small table and chairs inside.
