Review of Ombrelle Gel Sunscreen

Review of Ombrelle Gel Sunscreen
L'Oreal Ombrelle Gel sunscreen differs from most other sunscreens due to the inclusion of Mexoryl, an exclusive L'Oreal technology that offers a high degree of protection across the entire UV spectrum. This includes short- and long-wave radiation, also known as UVA and UVB. Ombrelle is available in a variety of application forms, including the gel reviewed here, and in a variety of packaging sizes. UV protection is available in Sun Protection Factors (SPF) of 15, 30, 45 and 60.

Perks

If you burn easily, and are outside in a variety of different conditions--particularly in full sun--Ombrelle's inclusion of Mexoryl for full-spectrum UVA and UVB protection is an important factor. Ombrelle's water-resistant design means you don't have to reapply sunscreen often, and the fragrance-free, non-oily design is a plus.

Sacrifices

L'Oreal Ombrelle sunblock must be mail-ordered from Canada--it's not available in the U.S. in 2009--so you can't run down to the local drugstore to pick up an extra tube when you run low. You'll need to factor in the cost of shipping as well when you're buying a supply.

Bottom Line

L'Oreal Ombrelle Sunscreen gel is well suited for outdoor activities where you'll be exposed to a lot of direct sunlight and UV radiation, like road biking, skiing or hiking above the tree line. The water-resistant design ensures you won't have to continually reapply sunscreen when you're sweating freely.
