Redfeather Snowshoes Review

Redfeather Snowshoes Review
Redfeather Snowshoes come in three models: technical, recreational and youth. Redfeather offers frames in extruded aluminum tubing or injection-molded nylon and either V-shaped or rounded tails. Redfeather snowshoes come with live-action hinges to increase tail lift and speed or pivot-rod hinges to increase float in deep snow. Stainless-steel crampons are the standard for Redfeather Snowshoes, and all but the plastic snowshoes have either a vinyl or Hypalon II decking. Redfeather bindings come in the following styles: z-pattern nylon straps (including women-specific variation), cross-country Hypalon II and urethane cinch straps, the Pilot II system, or plastic ratchet bindings.

Perks

Redfeather's special Pilot II high-performance binding system is meant to fit all sorts of boots, including skinnier-profile boots. This is good news to the backcountry mountaineer who may enjoy skiing a section of a trail and then switching into snowshoes for the ascent---without having to change footwear.

Sacrifices

The z-pattern nylon strap bindings on Redfeather snowshoes have a tendency to freeze and stiffen during a trek through varying terrain and temperature. Moisture collecting on the bindings freezes when the air temperature drops, which makes adjusting or removing the snowshoes a difficult process.

Bottom Line

Redfeather snowshoes have a good line of performance snowshoes and is sure to have a model that will fit the need of any age or type of snowshoer in your family.
