Putting the Sierra Fly Rods to the test!

Sierra Fly Rods offer an astonishing 35 different models of fly rods that range in lengths from 6 feet 6 inches to 10 feet. Sierra Fly Rods are designed to handle fly lines from a 1 weight to a 9 weight and are available in both 2 and 4 piece configurations. Each rod is built out of high end 42 million modulus graphite blanks, which provides a lightweight but powerful rod. Sierra Fly Rods offer 4 different style handles and 2 reel seats for the fly angler to chose from. Suggested pricing for 2009 ranges from $225 to $325.

Perks

Sierra Fly Rods offer a wide range of one to three weight fly rods that are perfect for small-stream trout fishing. But they have more than just light line rods, the ten foot seven weight fly rod makes a wonderful great lakes steelhead rod. Each Sierra Fly Rod comes with a protective rod tube for use while travelling and is hand-inscribed for a custom-built feel.

Sacrifices

Sierra Fly Rods are lacking when it comes to longer fly rods in higher line classes. Saltwater and salmon anglers may want to look elsewhere as these rods do not have the necessary power for heavyweight foes.

Bottom Line

Trout anglers will rejoice at the price, castability and light-line choices that Sierra Fly Rods have to offer. If small-stream fly-fishing is your passion, Sierra has the fly rod for you.
