Thermarest Z-Lite Sleeping Pad Review

Thermarest Z-Lite Sleeping Pad Review
The Thermarest Z-Lite sleeping pad is the most compact closed-cell sleeping pad on the market. Designed for three-season use, it can be used alone in all except the most extreme cold conditions. Made of laminated egg crate molded foam, the pad folds in a z-fashion; hence its name. Folded, the pad measures 20 inches W x 5 inches H x 5.5 inches L. Extended, the pad measures 20 inches W x 0.75 inches H x 72 inches L. It weighs only 14 ounces. While this pad is also available in the Z-Seat (a shorter version measuring only 16 inches x 13 inches), the review is for the full-length sleeping pad.

Perks

When weight is an issue but you do not want to compromise comfort, the Z-Lite gives you an extra layer of padding without weighing down your pack. This closed-cell, lightweight pad is an excellent compliment to a self-inflating pad for additional padding.

Sacrifices

Not really the ideal sleeping pad for colder conditions or as comfortable as a self-inflating pad. It gives an extra layer of insulation to protect you from the ground so you do not feel rocks, but that is about all.

Bottom Line

Best used as a component of a full sleep system (sleeping bag, closed cell pad and self-inflating pad), the Thermarest Z-Lite closed-cell sleeping pad will add to your camping comfort and help keep your pack light in the process.
