Cabelas Alaskan Guide Series Headlamp Review

Cabelas Alaskan Guide Series Headlamp Review
The Alaskan Guide Series headlamps by Cabela's include the XP Model, the X Model, the XW White Model, the XG Green Model and the QUL. The four "X" models feature a central white Maxbrite LED (supplemented with auxiliary 5mm LEDs, depending on the model) and weigh from 8 to 9.8 oz. The QUL has 5mm LEDs only and is the lightest of Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series headlamps at 3.4 oz. All Cabela's headlamps are weatherproof, run on lightweight replaceable batteries, have adjustable headbands and are made in the USA.

Perks

The 3.2-oz. Alaskan Guide Series QUL Headlamp is extremely lightweight--if the headband is adjusted correctly, you won't even feel like you're wearing it. Cabela's headlamps also have proven technology "under the hood"--the QUL is essentially the Cabela's name printed on a Princeton Tec Quad headlamp body.

Sacrifices

Headlamps with LEDs of any kind, especially the small 5mm kind, are better for providing flood-lighting than spot-lighting. Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series headlamps will surround your immediate field of vision but won't provide you a depth of vision.

Bottom Line

Cabela's Alaskan Guide Series Headlamps are good quality and comfortable. They are perfect for backpacking, ca camping, and for general hands-free lighting uses around the home. They are not for someone who needs to see clearly for 10 feet or more at night.
