Description

REI Ultra Dog Pack

The REI Ultra dog pack combines well-designed features with durable, high-quality materials to make your dog's backpacking experience sheer joy! 100% post-consumer recycled PET body is built tough to stand up to heavy outdoor use. Sleek and lightweight cord compression system pulls the pack load up and close to the body for unmatched stability. Water-repellant zippers help seal out the elements and protect the contents from moisture. Zippered expansion panels let you increase or decrease the saddlebag volume to match your dog's load. Zippered top pocket on each saddlebag holds small items within easy reach. Harness combines mesh for breathability and padded sections for comfort; perforated EVA foam reduces weight without sacrificing comfort or durability. Short lead is integrated into the harness handle to help guide or hold your dog when a longer leash isn't needed or available. High-strength aluminum leash ring is easy to grasp while clipping on a leash. Harness buckles feature a unique cam lock to eliminate webbing slip even when wet.

Papa's got a brand new bag

I purchased this pack for my new American Bulldog and it has performed fairly well. The sizing and straps make it easy to find a good fit, however, I wish that the Y-strap for the chest was a little more substantial. The pack does have decent breathability but it could be even better had they designed it with some mesh and padding on the inside of the bags themselves. Having said that, there is ample space in the bags for pretty much anything you'd want your dog to carry. The construction of this item has proven to be of good quality with the seems and straps all remaining secure and undamaged which is important if your dog tends to pull. The last thing I would add to this pack is another D-ring for

Confused my lab at first, but still good

I have a medium sized black labrador (I think... he's a rescue) and he loves going outside on hikes. Problem is he has this habit of going poop, especially in the most scenic and popular places. I'm not going to leave his poo in the wilderness, but I'm also not going to carry his poo in a plastic shopping bag for miles until I get off the trailhead. So, Lokke carries his poop bag and external poop bag in this pack. He also carries a collapsible water bowl to even out the pack. It tucks up small when there are few things in it, but there is room for expansion if I take him on a weekend trip where he will carry his kibble, bed, spare leash (cord), proper leash (I'll put it in the bag if

lacks durability

In spite of the comments about durabiity in the reviews I bought the pack because it looked like a good value compared to others. As others have noted, the adjustment keepeers on the buckles don't stay closed very well, but I tucked the loose ends in so that really didn't matter. What does matter is the webbing is apparently just barely trapped by the stitching, so within a couple of hours in the White Cloud Moutains of Idaho one strap just unraveled from the pack - it didn't break or tear, but simply unraveled. There is plenty of room for some bar tacks or doubled-back webbing ends which would make this a much more durable pack. My trailside repair with an old sewing kit held much longer than the original stitc

Great little pack

My dog seems very comfortable, the straps were easy to adjust and padded in the right places. We looked for a pack that would not fall forward, the rear belly band is placed just right to keep the pack in place. Bo is very happy and eats up the trail.

Worked Great On The First Try

I've seen a lot of comments about the fit of this pack, and almost all of them are along the lines of "...my dog weighs (blah blah blah) and it didn't fit right,". . . pay attention to the product info, people - the fit is based on SIZE, not weight. My 55lb Lab/mutt Neil is the same size as my 75lb Lab Sally, but his

I like the pack

I love the pack and the front two straps have plenty of adjustment but the back strap is super tight. If your dog is close to the upper size limit go with the larger size.

Needs more sizes!

Unfortunately my dog is between sizes; the medium won't tighten enough and the small's bags look too small to be of much use though technically measuring the small seemed like it could work (I did not bother exchanging). He is a lean 50 lb fluffy lab mix. Here is photo of how big the medium looks on him and the underside. The padding and mesh look to be breathable. Here are the MEDIUM measurements as best as

Excellent Dog Pack!

I got this pack for my 11 month old Stafford/Bull Terrier and he loves it. When I put it on him he knows its time to hit the woods. The pack straps on really securely without being uncomfortable for him. The top is mesh and the pouches on the sides actually don't make much contact with his flanks which allows him to stay cool while wearing it. It can hold a good amount of stuff, just take a minute to make sure each side is evenly loaded or else it will kind of sag to one side. He runs with it, rolls around and swims without it slowing him down one bit. And on top of that its a really good looking piece of equipment. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase.

It's all about the fit

I recommend that you bring your dog with you to REI to fit this pack. I'd say they run big; my dog is an old English bulldog, about 47 pounds. We first tried the medium and it was a tad too big with the straps pulled as tight as they would go. So we went back in and grabbed a small, and it fit perfectly. This pack was Leila's 4th birthday present as we were planning a hike in the White Mountains for the weekend. It fit 2 20 oz water bottles, 2 collapsible food bowls, 5 cups of kibble, a bag of treats, and a chew toy without expanding the bags. The first thing I noticed when we started out was that she wasn't pulling. She is notorious for pulling pretty strong, and maybe it was the added weight, but it ma
