REI Silk Long-Sleeve Crew Shirt - Men's

This shirt seems thinner than the one I got about 15 years ago, therefore it probably won't be as warm & won't last as long. It is very sheer.I'm not going to return it because I've read reviews at another merchant which also made the same comments, so I don't know if there is an alternative. Maybe REI will work with the suppliers to find a more substantial version that is still affordable.Silk is an excellent first layer. It is comfortably soft, and gives a lot of warmth for such a thin garment. Though I almost always hand wash it, it dries quickly. When camping you could wash it in the morning and it would be dry enough to wear before the sun gets low & the temperature drops. Super comfy in the sleeping bag at night.I avoid petroleum based fabrics that are staticy & melt on your skin in a fire. They say that these silk threads of bug juice hold warmth when wet, as does sheep fur. I know it breathes & handles sweat well.I carry silk long underwear in my day pack routinely in the winter because it folds up so small & can save your comfort & life if the weather goes bad. The shirt is more of a backpacking item for me. I think they've been selling these at REI for a long time, I can't believe I'm the first one to write a review.
