The Kid likes his pants
For buying any kids clothing the primary debate point is how much they cost vs. how much they'll wear them. I'm very happy that the boy likes these pants and wears them regularly. I got them to go with his scout uniform, they were a need, but so often those needed purchases are rarely used and seem like a waste. But he likes them, and wears them long and short. As a bonus, they fit well and look good and his mother was happy with my ability to buy the kid some pants.

Dries fast
I bought these for my teenaged son for a summer of camping and canoeing. He was most impressed with how fast these dry even when it is cold and wet out. His outdoors experiences in these pants included the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior and the Boundary Waters.

Perfect for backpacking!
Bought these for my son to wear on a 6 day backpacking trip in Sespe. He wore them everyday and they were perfect for protecting from poison oak while backpacking and then a quick transition once they arrived at their destination for the day. Super comfortable and look great too. Highly recommend for kids and young adults.

Versatile

useful cool pants
We have bought these REI zip offs for several years as our boys grew--from size 7 to 18 XL. They get a hole if you slide on bare rock, but otherwise are durable. cool, EZ to wash, EZ to pack for trips, very comfortable and still stylish. NOT dorky as the waist is not elastic. Only CON is the zipped off shorts are longer--a bit below the knee of a tall son-- than the regular REI shorts of the same size.

I buy these every year
With a growing boy these pants are great! When all of my son's pants become too short, these pants get one more season as shorts. Also, during those strange weather days, these are our "go to pants". In the morning my son is warm enough but, our deal is that if it gets hotter, he can zip them off and be cool in shorts.
