Works as expected
I got this belay device as a gift to my wife (I'm a happy owner of Gri Gri 1). She didn't like this new version, so I exchanged it with her. We are using both models now.

This thing is great!
I got 2 of these to replace the older model that we have at the camp I work at. After using the older model and a different brand, this gri gri felt amazing to use. They are smaller and lighter which is always a plus. I think they flipped the handle around on the knew one so its easier to get to. Over all its a great product.

Easy to use - just don't lose!
I use the Grigri for almost everything - even rappelling if I need to. Having the auto-locking feature is probably the biggest strength and makes it worth the extra $60 or so. Such a convenience if you need to make a small adjustment, grab a sip of water, or itch a mosquito bite (I know,

Grigri has a place on my rack
I purchased the grigri because I wanted a safer method of belaying on top of multipitch routes. Sadly, that is the only time I will ever use it. . . . I have used it on three seperate occasions and find it difficult to maintain constant lowering speeds. I guess I just love my atc!

You shouldn't be climbing without this, especially if you are newer to the sport or climbing in "severe" conditions. More experienced climbers may choose to use more traditional devices, and those are in some ways better, but the GRIGRI is a great learning device. It can be hard to master, but its wide variety of functions are unmatched. It is also a great substitute in a pinch for devices like ascenders.
