For small headed children
When my son could wear this jacket, it fit well and was comfortable to him without any chafing. However, we bought this for our son two years ago when he was just under 50 lbs. Now he is 6 years old and 56lbs and the jacket won't fit over his head. This had started to be an issue last year. I expect a 50-90lb youth PFD to fit until a child is near 90 lbs. I returned it successfully, but was given chastisment by the customer service guy who said kids outgrow things and it was like a kid outgrowing shoes and somehow it was my fault I was returning it. He obvoiusly didn't know anything about PFD's and after the experience I left the store livid. Appearently REI is changing how they handle returns.

love it!
Works great! My son loves it, although the color does not do well with his red hair, but I'm not really worried about that.If you are having issues getting it on, unzip and loosen the straps. It slipped over his big Charlie Brown head with ease. I purposely avoided buckles because he can be a bi

Some great features but...
Has "cool" factor so kids like to wear it and has useful features like tethered whistle, easily accessible front pocket, hand warming pocket, reflective tape. Drawbacks are there is no zipper so it has to slip over child's head and head hole is quite small. Was purchased for 70 lb. 8 year old of average size; head hole is tight going on and off but fine once it's on. It would have been a very simple fix to have made the adjustable shoulder straps an inch longer. Also, one of the waist strap buckles is tucked behind the pocket panel which makes it somewhat difficult to acccess. All in all the positive features outweight the minor drawbacks.
