Playa de las Americas is a popular beach resort-town on the island of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands. Situated on the Atlantic Ocean in the southern region of the island, Playa de las Americas attracts vacation-goers from all over the globe with top-notch beaches, water-sports and nightlife. This tourist destination has developed over the past 30 years into one of the premier vacation spots in the Canary Islands.

Beaches

Relax on the pristine beaches of Playa de las Americas. The natural sand in some sections of Tenerife is soft and black from ancient volcanic activity. Developers imported superior beach sand from Africa to the island starting back in the 1960s, and Playa de las Americas is one of the areas where much of this pearly-white sand has been distributed. Check out local beaches like Playa la Troya and Las Cuevitas for swimming and sunbathing. Go snorkeling or scuba-diving along the offshore reefs of Playa de las Americas. You can also try your hand at windsurfing or para-sailing.

Catamaran Whale Watching

Head out on the water for a whale-watching excursion. Eden Catamaran is a quality company that organizes whale-watching and dolphin-spotting trips at Playa de las Americas. Docked at Puerto Colón in south Tenerife, the company catamaran is a modern sailboat big enough to take 45 people on each voyage. Sail with the eco-friendly Eden Catamaran crew around the coast of Playa de las Americas as you observe whales and dolphins in their natural habitat. The boat also takes you past Los Gigantes, a famous cliff known for its massive size.

Jungle Park

Visit Jungle Park, known as Parque las Aguilas by the locals. Located five minutes from Playa de las Americas in the hills of Tenerife, Jungle Park is a large wildlife reserve with tropical hiking trails and various habitats for wild animals. Hike through the park, observing the jungle gardens, free-roaming wildlife and enclosed animals. The highlight of the park is the Eagle Show, an event where trainers showcase the power and grace of birds of prey. The audience watches as eagles plummet from the sky, capturing their prey and performing other tricks with their trainers.
