Fun Restaurants in Paris

Paris: the city of lights, love and incredible food. While it's temping to survive in Paris on crepes alone, sometimes a more substantial meal is in order after a long day of walking, sightseeing, and stair-stepping. If you've gone for a walk or a run along the promenade plantee--the 4.5 km (2.8 miles) promenade above street level that's brimming with gardens, art studios and unique views of the city--you'll definitely have worked up an appetite. Try one of these fun, cozy and off-the-beaten-path restaurants.

Les Marcheurs de Planete

In the middle of Paris' lively 11th arrondissement, you'll find Les Marcheurs de Planete, a tiny restaurant packed with locals, funky artwork, musical instruments and--last but not least--really good French food. The dress code is casual, the kitchen is open until midnight Tuesday through Saturday, and the wine list has over 100 wines, making Les Marcheures de Planete a great place to grab a drink or a bite or eat for lunch or dinner. In addition to providing a warm atmosphere and good food, the restaurant hosts live music on Thursday nights between 10 p.m. and midnight.

Racines

Opened in 2007, Racines (meaning "roots" in French) is the brainchild of Pierre Jancou--"cook, restaurant owner, then wine merchant, and finally, importer of natural wines"--and is located in Paris' oldest covered arcade. Jancou's expertise started and remains in the promotion of "extremely natural" wines (meaning that no sulphur dioxide has been added), and Racines is an extension of that love, offering simple French fare and Italian charcuterie to complement the "most natural wine list in Paris."

Au Pied de Cochon

If you find yourself craving alternative fare and a culinary adventure, saunter over to Au Pied de Cochon, a centrally located Parisian restaurant that has been serving classic brasserie fare round-the-clock since 1946. Listed by National Geographic as a top Parisian Restaurant, this hopping brasserie offers traditional French items such as onion soup and steak tartare as well as its most famous and fun item: pig's feet. Bon appetit!

Mama Shelter

You don't need to stay at the swanky Mama Shelter Hotel, voted by CNBC in 2009 as a top-10 business hotel, to enjoy a one-of-a-kind eating experience at its restaurant. The modern, white-lit dining area is full of functional, artsy and fun elements: newspapers hang on hooks like coats on a coat rack; the ceiling is one giant chalkboard; and flat-screen TVs display photos that diners have taken of themselves using a digital camera provided by the restaurant. Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, the restaurant hosts live musicians from around the world, and a late-night snack bar (open until 1:30 a.m.) offers biscuits, cookies, and candy for anyone craving a midnight treat.
