Things to Do on a Rainy Day in Los Angeles

Things to Do on a Rainy Day in Los Angeles
Los Angeles is a great town for sightseeing, outdoor adventures, movie stars and more. Although LA doesn't see many rainy days, as Southern California is known for its 300-plus days of sunshine, there are those rare days of rain that can spoil your plans of hanging out on the beach. However, there are tons of exciting things you can do in Los Angeles on a rainy day.

Visit the Discovery Science Center

The Discovery Science Center is a huge interactive science museum and entertainment complex. The exhibits range from static fossils and diagrams to playing virtual volleyball, lying on a bed of nails and experiencing what a real California earthquake feels like.

Go Bowling

Take up an indoor sport for the day--bowling. The famous Lucky Strike Lanes bowling alley in Hollywood is no ordinary bowling hall. It's jazzed up with fancy lights, a chic retro style and fashionable cocktails. Play a couple rounds and then shoot some pool or challenge a stranger to a game on the tabletop arcades. Then enjoy the nightlife of a 21-and-over bowling alley nightclub that's been known to host performances from A-list artists.

Go to the Griffith Observatory

Even though it's rainy, you can still get some great looks at the atmosphere and sky from the Griffith Observatory. You might not be able to see all the stars and constellations on a rainy night, but you can check out what thunderclouds look like up close, and have the science of how everything forms explained to you in person. It's the best view of Los Angeles hands down, rainy or not.

Go Sportfishing

Go sportfishing and enjoy the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Boats go out daily rain or shine, so you're always in luck. There are half day, three-quarter day and full day boats and more options to accommodate your desired fishing length, where you'd like to go and even what kind of fish you'd like to catch.

Go to Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios Hollywood doesn't shut down for the rain so you can still have a blast on all the movie themed rides, take the back lot tour and try making it up the hundreds of stairs that connect the top level of the park and the bottom, where the studio backlots are. Run these stairs "Rocky" style if you dare for a real workout.
