Located 22 miles southwest of Los Angeles, Santa Catalina Island is rich in history and remains one of California's greatest natural treasures to this day. Host to more than a million visitors each year, many island-goers sail into Catalina aboard their personal boats or catch a ferry from Los Angeles or Orange County. Santa Catalina is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts looking to scuba dive or snorkel among the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean or hike to the top of the tallest point on the island, Mt. Orizaba, which stands at 2,097 feet. Although the island may be small in size, it can take days to experience all the adventure it has to offer. Travelers have a variety of hotels to choose from to use as a base while setting off on daily island adventures.
