Best Restaurants in Asbury Park, New Jersey
Asbury Park, New Jersey, has seen better days. A vital and busy vacation town from the 1920s through the '50s, the age of jet travel and the development of beach resorts in Florida and the south took away much of Asbury Park's tourist trade. There's been a modest revival in the fortunes of the town in the 1990s and the 2000s, as new businesses and some redevelopment has occurred. Still, it's an odd mix of decay and gentrification in its current state.

Taka

Hi-end sushi and Japanese food in Asbury Park? Believe it. Taka has established a reputation for sublime decor, service, and food, all in an atmosphere you'd associate with a great metropolitan city, rather than the Jersey shore.

The menu features a wide range of impeccably produced sushi, but if you're looking for something with a little more heft, enjoy the ribeye steaks or barbecued short ribs with some tasty grilled tempura vegetables. Taka is a popular dining and gathering spot, so recommendations are suggested.

The Brickwall Tavern

The Brickwall Tavern likes to describe itself as serving "upscale comfort food." It's an apt description. The menu ranges from expertly grilled steaks to hearty burgers, with a more than ample selection of appetizers and finger foods. Twelve beers on tap and a full drink menu will keep the proceedings well lubricated.

Set in the newly revitalized Cookman Avenue area of Asbury Park, the Brickwall features plenty of exposed beams, bare bricks and a rugged panache. The service is top notch, and needs to be--you'll find The Brickwall a busy place to visit on a weekend.

The Beach Bar

Nestled into the southern and eastern walls of the beachfront convention center, The Beach Bar has quickly become one of the favorite eating and drinking spots on the beach. There's ample outdoor seating with direct beach access, and plenty of cozy nooks inside featuring wicker chairs and ample cushions.

The menu is pretty straightforward at The Beach Bar, with an emphasis on sandwiches and wraps, but the three bars give you ample opportunity to recharge after spending some time in the surf and sun.
