Situated in the southern corner of the Jersey Shore, Wildwood, New Jersey, is an old and heavily developed beach destination. The hotels of Wildwood are arguably more famous than the beach itself, as they represent a dense concentration of 1950s- and 1960s-era Doo-Wop architecture, and the area is a historic landmark district. In addition to the beach, the local marshes are good sites for bird-watching, and despite its largely urban setting, there are some campgrounds in the area.

King Nummy Trail Campground

This campground offers RV campers electric, water, sewer and cable TV hookups. Most sites have fire rings. There is a volleyball court, basketball court, two outdoor swimming pools, a game room and a playground. There are also two bath houses with showers, a camp store and free morning coffee during the summer season. They also have cabins for rent. However, this is a largely RV-oriented site, so tent campers might be happier elsewhere.

Holly Shores Camping Resort

This campground has a heated, outdoor swimming pool and a hot tub, and it is pet-friendly. However, it also has a family-friendly policy banning alcohol. The campground is mostly for RVs, and even the most basic sites have water and electric hookups (the most advanced have sewer as well). However, the campground is fairly large, and some places offer the sort of seclusion from RVs and trailers that a tent camper wants to have. There are four bath houses and an arcade, and the campground rents kayaks for those who want to get out and explore the backwaters and marshes in the area. French Canadians should take heart, as the campground is bi-lingual.

There are three adult and two kiddie outdoor swimming pools. There is a game room, five bath houses, a clubhouse with a TV room and a kitchen, and the campground rents out bikes, paddle boats and kayaks. It also has trailers and cabins available. The sites include a number meant specifically for tent campers.
