Exotic Things to Do in NYC

Exotic Things to Do in NYC
New York City, referred to as "The City" by many, is filled with tons of attractions and activities for all sorts of people and interests. However, with all the buzz around popular tourist destinations and sightseeing spots, most folks miss out on the truly exotic and wondrous places and things to do within the city's confines. Look deeper and you'll see there are some great outdoor activities slightly out of the norm, especially for a metropolitan city workscape.

Picnic in Central Park

Have a picnic in Central Park. Central Park covers 843 acres, so there are tons of ground to cover and places to get lost for a unique lunch. Find the hidden niches and cozy up to your own little corner of bliss in an exotic setting where you never know what you'll find, from waterfalls to animals--perhaps even a cave.

Rock Climbing

Take on the outdoor rock climbing wall in Central Park. The fresh air and outdoor atmosphere make it seem like you're conquering a cliff somewhere else in the world, not within a city, which makes it fun and provides the thrill adventure lovers seek. Get the blood pumping and adrenaline rush as you challenge a friend to see who can reach the top first.

Take a Rowboat Trip

Get a little slice of heaven right in the middle of big-city life. Rent a rowboat and tour the Central Park lake. Float around and take in the sunset over the city skyline or paddle north along the wilderness area called the Ramble. No matter what you choose to do, it's sure to be a one-of-a-kind city experience that will let you relax for a moment and breathe deeply.

Become a Trapeze Artist

Fly high over the world or at least pretend to as a trapeze artist. Take a class at the trapeze school where you can learn to swing, flip and move like an aerial performer. It's a great workout and one you'll have trouble finding anywhere. Whether you're just a beginner, in great shape and flexible or an experienced pro, you can find classes and sessions that will meet your needs and ensure a good time.

See the Reinwick Ruins

Take an exotic adventure to see the Renwick Ruins, the site of a former smallpox hospital. Getting there involves taking a tram to Roosevelt Island, then taking a long walk, but it's worth the journey. The massive Gothic mansion-like estate is a history buff's dream. Abandoned for 50 years, there are plenty of ghost stories and suspicious tales of what goes on here, especially at night when it's flooded with light.
