Sydney Breakfast & Brunch Restaurants

Heather Roylo Manfredi/sxc.hu

Whether you are exploring the historic Rocks section of the city, boogie boarding at Manly Beach, discovering unheard of plants at the Royal Botanical Garden or hiking in Royal National Park, there is going to come a time when you will need to eat. Fortunately, Sydney, Australia, is full of spots where visitors can fill up on breakfast before heading out into the city.

Trio Cafe

Hang 10 at Sydney's famous Bondi Beach before warming up over a hot breakfast at the Trio Cafe. The Trio Cafe sits close to the water and offers typically stunning views of the ocean during the morning hours. The menu listing is long here and includes a vegetarian breakfast with two eggs, carrot sourdough bread and sauteed vegetables, as well as more traditional buttermilk pancakes and french toast. Brunch is also offered at Trio and coffees combine beans from Rainforest Alliance and seven different regions worldwide. When not munching, Bondi Beach is an ideal place to learn how to surf or to go for a swim, but make certain you stick to the north end of the beach as rip currents along the south are rough. Reservations accepted.

Cafe Giulia

Take the short trip to the inner-city suburb of Chippendale for breakfast at Cafe Giulia. For those seeking lighter fare, this small cafe offers guests more of a diner experience. Local artists share the space to hang, and hopefully sell, their work. Known for its coffee and fresh juices, such as combinations of beetroot, pineapple, passion fruit and orange, the cafe menu also includes Tuscan toast with sauteed vegetables, porridge with roasted quince and brown sugar, the standard eggs with either bacon or sausage, breakfast muffins and, uncommon in the city, a decent selection of bagels. The atmosphere here is laid back and visitors can couple a visit with a stroll in nearby Prince Alfred Park, which offers views of the city skyline. An even better idea is to get your breakfast to go and have a picnic on the park lawns. Closed Mondays.

Bather's Pavillion Cafe

Try something a little more upscale by visiting the stately Bather's Pavillion Cafe in Balmoral Beach. Well known as an expensive eatery during the evenings, the wise tourist will opt instead for the cafe's more affordable, Mediterranean-style breakfast menu. Not to be confused with the restaurant also on the premises, visitors will be rewarded with views of the Middle Harbour and morning boat traffic. Menu options include poached rhubarb french toast, toasted, homemade granola with yogurt, and smoked trout, with leek, a poached egg and potato. Pots of tea or coffee are available as is smoked sausage and salmon. Work off the excess afterwards with a walk along the esplanade, a snooze in the sand or be a bit more active and take roller blading lessons.
