New Jersey is packed with fun restaurants for kids. Some emphasize the food, others place their focus on the fun, with food on the side. Whether you prefer history, nature or amusements along the shore, there is something for everyone.

Get out and active at the beach, wander the park, then stop off for a convenient meal. These locations offer natural settings, active games for kids or themed adventure along with a little education.

Duke Farms

The grounds at Duke Farms offer recreation for environmentalists and nature lovers, with some of the oldest trees in New Jersey, wildlife and diverse habitats. Self-guided tours, moonlight walks and bike tours are all available. The indoor garden, gnome hunts and adventure days and bunny hunts are made for kids. The outdoor restaurant near the visitors center offers salads and sandwiches.

Medieval Times

Medieval Times is a theme restaurant showcasing medieval jousting, all inside a castle based on 11th century Spain. The food is basic--a meat, soup, bread and dessert--but with enough variety that most kids will find something to like. Royalty upgrades provide souvenirs and the restaurant offers birthday specials.

Funplex

Both Funplex locations offer 25 acres of entertainment. East Hanover has a free-fall ride, go karts and bumper cars. Foam Frenzy (a three-level unit featuring thousands of foam balls and an interactive environment in which to use them), Lazer Runner's laser tag, XD theater (with 3-D and motion simulation) and the MagiQuest fantasy game will occupy kids for hours.

At Mount Laurel, the 25-acre entertainment center is indoor and outdoor, featuring mini golf, bumper boats, go karts, a Ferris wheel, bowling, an arcade and the Splashin' Speedway water attraction.

The Funplex cafe at each location offers appetizers, hot Italian food from pizza to stomboli and calzone, burgers, chicken nuggets, salads, hot sandwiches, soup, snacks and dessert. Order for one or the whole family. Birthday and group parties are welcome.

Battleship New Jersey

The battleship hosts group tours and overnights. Visitors can cater rations from the ship (boxed lunch meals) or enjoy the barbecue with fruit, vegetables, dessert and an array of meats.

Overnights include adventures such as a simulated missile launch, the chance to live like a sailor and learn about the history of the battleship. Food for overnights includes meal service from the crew's mess.

The Jersey Shore

The multiple communities along the Jersey Shore offer limitless opportunities for adventure and food of all types. Island Beach State Park is one of several parks and campgrounds nearby.

Tour lighthouses, play in the ocean, visit an aquarium, or stroll the boardwalk for amusements, food stands and a hundred points of interest. The Wildwood Boardwalk has two miles of restaurants and shops. Bay Village is host to fine eateries. Keansburg Amusement Park has a water park, rides and arcade with dining for the family.
